WooCommerce is slow by default, not by nature – and every cause is fixable.

The built-in culprits: WooCommerce loads cart fragments (an AJAX call) on every page, runs unoptimised database queries, and serves uncached PHP where a content site would serve static HTML. On top of that, most stores add a heavy theme and too many plugins, each adding code and queries.

Stack those up and a default store scores under 40 on mobile. But none of it is inherent to WooCommerce – it’s configuration. Fix the caching, trim and optimise the plugins and theme, tune the database and hosting, and the same store loads in under half a second.

We do exactly this: Squadron Nostalgia went from slowest-in-category to 87% faster and 14.5% more profitable. More: how to speed it up · best hosting · the full performance guide
